Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullsh*t now has a body count.

No, Heather, it's Heather's turn. Heather?

Initially I was going to title this post Well, fuck me gently with a chainsaw, but I don't want people who don't get the reference thinking I am being crude ;) Anyhow, let me start off this post by saying:

Dear blog readers, my life has found the missing meaning it should have come across ten years ago, when I was still in high school. I have finally watched the cult classic Heathers.

Who Do You Think You Are?

Lisa Kudrow, producer of the US version.
Last time I was in New York I caught a pretty bad summer cold and had to take it very easy for two days. Once I conquered Williamsburg's sweltering heat and managed to find a pharmacy to stack up on juice, Kleenex and drugs, I spent the day in bed watching Hulu. That's when I discovered Who Do You Think You Are?.

The show is the American adaptation of the British series of the same name, and in each episode the ancestry of a celebrity is traced. The lovely Lisa Kudrow is the executive producer. In a fan question interview available on Hulu, she talks about pitching the show in the United States, saying that she is "mostly happy that there's a show of this caliber that American audiences have embraced. People used to say that it works in the UK because they are smarter over there."

Wheatgrass In Barcelona

Three years ago, my lovely friend Nik introduced me to wheatgrass. We both share a love for strange fruit and vegetable juice concoctions, so I was quite willing to try it, despite the fact that this would involve drinking grass.

I love juice! :)
Off we went to find a place in Barcelona where we could purchase freshly pressed shots, which Nik swiftly located at a juice bar called Smudy. Thankfully they had it in stock, and to my surprise, I found that the taste was quite pleasant, oddly sweet.

Ever since then, I get wheatgrass whenever I get a chance. In the United States I simply head to Jamba Juice, and here in Barcelona I continue to go to Smudy (although I have found that sometimes they are out of it).

Lately, I've been considering growing my own at home, but then again, I can barely keep a cactus alive, so it's not a very realistic endeavor.

The reason I am writing about this now is because I had a shot today, and holy headache! There are a lot of health claims attributed to wheatgrass, and from what I have gathered, a lot of it is unsubstantiated. But the headache I get every single time is real. Then I feel nicely energized, sleep amazingly well that night, and wake up refreshed the next morning. So to me it is a super food :)

Have you tried wheatgrass? What is your favorite place to get it? What effects have you noticed? Let me know in the comments!

Vintage Mermaids And Fairytale Endings

Last night I randomly decided to watch The Little Mermaid. Being an 80s kid,  I was looking for Disney. It had not even crossed my mind to search for an alternate version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale.

Thankfully, YouTube is a magical place, and my search yielded an even more interesting result: The Little Mermaid, an animated short presented by Reader's Digest back in 1974.

All I can say is: The real deal!
